I - THE TRUE STORY
Towards the end of the 1600s, a man named John Kitchum was expelled from Salem for practicing witchcraft. He took refuge in a small town called Amityville to continue performing the rites that had forced him to flee Salem... It is said he was buried there.
But even before that, the region was considered an old Native American cemetery.
In 1974, the De Feo family came to live in Amityville. A few days later, shortly before 3:15 a.m., Ronald De Feo, aged twenty-two, took his .35 caliber rifle and left the living room of his home to exterminate all members of his family. Some questions about the De Feo case have never been answered. For example, a high-caliber rifle makes a deafening noise. Yet, each of the victims died in their bed, without any sign of struggle and all in the same position.
Shortly afterward, a team of eminent demonologists, with more than thirty years of experience, described their encounter with a supernatural being—diabolically intelligent, seized by an unrelenting and eternal rage against God and man.
George and Catherine Lutz only knew that a madman had killed his entire family a year earlier when they decided to buy the house...
George and Catherine Lutz moved in with their son and their dog Harry.
The screen:
The screen is divided into six parts:
- A view of where you are or of the event happening;
- A section for dialog with the computer, where you give commands via joystick or keyboard;
- The time and number of days elapsed since entering this nightmare house (these numbers serve as a score);
- A large portion of the screen displays text responses to your commands;
- A text box titled "IMPORTANT" tells you the action to perform. Always pay attention to it — it's a useful guide;
- The items you’ve collected will appear in the last box.
How to play:
1. With keyboard:
- Movement mode: Use the arrow keys to move between rooms in the four cardinal directions (North, East, South, West). The "P" key shows the floor map and your location (a cross). Press a key to exit the map.
- Dialog mode: While in movement mode, press the SPACEBAR key to enter dialog mode. The yellow word in the middle of the dialog box indicates you’re in this mode;
- Some items are only available on certain days.
- You will only die if you leave a room without performing an essential action.
- Some days you’ll learn things useful for future days.
- If the dialog window disappears, press a key to continue.
- Using LEFT and RIGHT keys moves horizontally, changes the column, highlighted by a color change of the middle word;
- Moving vertically UP or DOWN key, scrolls through the word options;
- To issue a command, bring the desired words to the center of the dialog box and press SPACEBAR. The action will be executed, and the response will appear in the text section. You'll then automatically return to movement mode.
